Description
Windsurf Plugin (formerly Codeium): The Codeium autocomplete extension, renamed Windsurf Plugin in 2025 and now a maintenance-mode companion to Devin Desktop, formerly Windsurf IDE
Google Antigravity: Google's agent-first coding platform: a desktop app for running several coding agents at once, plus an IDE, a CLI and a Python SDK
Pros
- Existing installs keep working in VS Code, JetBrains, Visual Studio, Vim, Neovim, Jupyter, Chrome and Eclipse
- Keeps AI completions in your current editor instead of switching IDEs
- The free plan for individuals includes unlimited Tab completions and every product feature, including scheduled tasks and the CLI
- Run several local agents in parallel and group the conversations into projects across workspaces
- Browser-in-the-loop agents can take over repetitive front-end tasks
Cons
- All plugins are in maintenance mode: no new features
- Cascade in the JetBrains plugin is being deprecated, and the JetBrains remote plugin is no longer maintained
- The maker recommends Devin Desktop, or Devin over ACP in JetBrains, instead
- The free quota refreshes only once a week; Google AI Pro refreshes it every five hours
- Third-party models are reserved for Google AI Ultra; the other plans run on Gemini models
- You can't add your own API key to get more usage
Details
Codeium was a free AI autocomplete extension that worked in almost any editor: VS Code, JetBrains, Vim, Emacs and more. Its company built the Windsurf editor on top of it and, in April 2025, renamed itself Windsurf, retiring the Codeium brand and renaming the extensions Windsurf Plugin. Cognition bought the Windsurf business later in 2025 and renamed the editor Devin Desktop on 2 June 2026. codeium.com now opens the Devin Desktop site.
The plugins still exist, but Cognition’s documentation lists all of them as in maintenance mode and recommends the Devin Desktop editor, or Devin over ACP inside JetBrains IDEs. For AI completion in your current editor with active development, GitHub Copilot is the usual choice. If you are willing to switch editors, Devin Desktop or Cursor give you completion plus agent features.
Antigravity is Google’s development platform built around agents rather than an editor with a chat panel. The main app is a command centre where you start and steer several agents at once, group conversations into projects and schedule recurring messages. There is also a full IDE, a terminal CLI and a Python SDK for building your own agents on the same harness.
The free plan for individuals is the main draw. You get the agent, unlimited Tab completions and every feature without paying, within a weekly quota, which makes it easy to try next to Cursor or Claude Code.
Limits are the catch. Google sets them by available capacity and by how much work the agent does, so the number of prompts you get varies from task to task. Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) raises the limits and refreshes them every five hours, and Pro and Ultra users can buy AI credits for usage beyond the quota. Teams can get it through Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise, with seats from $30 a month.
