Claude Code vs Google Antigravity
Pricing
Claude Code: Included in all paid Claude plans (Pro $20/mo, Max $100-200/mo) or pay-as-you-go via the Anthropic API
Google Antigravity: Free for individuals with weekly limits; higher limits with Google AI Pro ($19.99/mo) or Ultra (from $99.99/mo)
Description
Claude Code: Anthropic's AI coding tool that reads your entire codebase and makes changes across files, from your terminal, IDE, desktop app or browser
Google Antigravity: Google's agent-first coding platform: a desktop app for running several coding agents at once, plus an IDE, a CLI and a Python SDK
Pros
- Understands large codebases better than most, with a 1M token context window on current models
- Terminal-native means it fits into git workflows without friction
- Genuinely good at multi-file refactoring and complex tasks
- The free plan for individuals includes unlimited Tab completions and every product feature, including scheduled tasks and the CLI
- Run several local agents in parallel and group the conversations into projects across workspaces
- Browser-in-the-loop agents can take over repetitive front-end tasks
Cons
- API costs add up fast on big projects: a heavy session can cost $5-20
- The $20 Pro plan is pitched at short coding sprints in small codebases; heavier use means Max at $100-200/mo
- No free tier; requires a paid Claude plan or an Anthropic Console account
- The free quota refreshes only once a week; Google AI Pro refreshes it every five hours
- Third-party models are reserved for Google AI Ultra; the other plans run on Gemini models
- You can't add your own API key to get more usage
Details
Claude Code works directly with your git repo. It runs in your terminal, and also as a VS Code or JetBrains extension, a desktop app, and in the browser at claude.ai/code. You describe what you want changed, it reads the relevant files, makes edits, and can even run your tests to check its work.
Where it really shines is tasks that touch many files at once. “Rename this concept across the whole project” or “add TypeScript types to all these API routes” is the kind of tedious refactoring that would take you hours. The catch is cost. Every paid Claude plan includes it, starting with Pro at $20/month, and the Max plans at $100-200/month give you much more usage for a fixed price. You can also run it on the Anthropic API through a Console account and pay per token, but heavy usage on a large codebase can get expensive.
Antigravity is Google’s development platform built around agents rather than an editor with a chat panel. The main app is a command centre where you start and steer several agents at once, group conversations into projects and schedule recurring messages. There is also a full IDE, a terminal CLI and a Python SDK for building your own agents on the same harness.
The free plan for individuals is the main draw. You get the agent, unlimited Tab completions and every feature without paying, within a weekly quota, which makes it easy to try next to Cursor or Claude Code.
Limits are the catch. Google sets them by available capacity and by how much work the agent does, so the number of prompts you get varies from task to task. Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) raises the limits and refreshes them every five hours, and Pro and Ultra users can buy AI credits for usage beyond the quota. Teams can get it through Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise, with seats from $30 a month.
