Xata

Serverless database with full-text search, file attachments, and a spreadsheet-like UI built in

Visit Website Free tier (15 GB data, 750 MB search), Pro from $24/mo

Xata bundles things you usually need separate services for. You get a Postgres-based database, Elasticsearch-powered full-text search, file attachments with image transformations, and a clean spreadsheet UI for managing data — all from one provider. The free tier gives you 15 GB of data storage and 75,000 records, which is enough for a real product.

The catch is abstraction. Xata sits on top of Postgres but does not give you full Postgres access in all plans. If you want to run arbitrary SQL, use extensions, or connect pgAdmin, you may hit limitations. The product is still relatively young, so the community is smaller and some features (like branching) feel less polished than what Neon or Supabase offer. For solo founders who want a database plus search without wiring up multiple services, Xata saves real integration time. If you want raw Postgres power, go with Supabase or Neon directly.

What's good

  • Search, file attachments, and image transformations included — no need for separate services
  • Free tier includes 15 GB of data and 750 MB of search storage
  • Spreadsheet-like web UI makes it easy to browse and edit data without writing queries

Watch out for

  • Built on Postgres but abstracts it — you cannot run raw SQL in all cases
  • Smaller community and ecosystem compared to Supabase or MongoDB Atlas
  • Branching and migration features are still maturing
