Granola vs Linear
Pricing
Granola: Free tier (30 days of history), Business $14 per user/mo
Linear: Free for small teams, from $8/user/mo
Description
Granola: AI meeting notepad that captures your computer's audio without a bot joining the call and turns your rough notes into full ones
Linear: Issue tracking that is absurdly fast and keyboard-driven, the anti-Jira
Pros
- No bot joins the call: it records the audio on your own device
- Apps for desktop, iOS, Android and Apple Watch
- Audio is deleted after transcription, and you can opt out of model training
- Fastest project management UI you will ever use: everything is instant
- Keyboard shortcuts for everything so you rarely touch the mouse
- GitHub integration syncs issues with PRs and branches automatically
Cons
- The free plan only shows the last 30 days of meeting history
- Integrations with Notion, HubSpot, Attio and Zapier, and API access, need the $14 Business plan
- Opinionated workflow: it wants you to work its way, not the other way around
- Limited customization compared to Notion or Jira
- Overkill if you just need a simple to-do list
Details
Granola is a notepad for meetings. You jot rough notes during the call while Granola transcribes the audio from your computer, and afterwards it enhances your notes with what was said. Because it records device audio, nobody else in the meeting sees a bot.
It suits founders with back-to-back calls who want usable notes without an assistant in the room. You can chat with your notes across meetings, share folders and connect your notes to Claude or ChatGPT through MCP.
The free Basic plan has the core features but keeps only 30 days of history. Business, at $14 per user a month, adds unlimited history, follow-up emails, pre-meeting briefs and the integrations.
Linear is what happens when people who were frustrated with Jira build their own issue tracker. Every interaction is instant: no loading spinners, no waiting for pages. Keyboard shortcuts let you triage, assign, and move issues without touching the mouse.
For solo founders who also write code, the GitHub integration is the real selling point. Create a branch from a Linear issue, open a PR, and the issue moves automatically. It forces a clean workflow. The free tier covers individual use. If you are managing more than a sticky-note to-do list but less than a full Jira installation, Linear is the sweet spot.
