Cloudflare Workers vs Deno Deploy

Pricing

Cloudflare Workers: Free tier (100,000 requests/day), paid from $5/mo

Deno Deploy: Free tier (1M requests/mo), Pro from $20/mo

Description

Cloudflare Workers: Serverless platform for running JavaScript, TypeScript, Python or Rust code and full-stack apps on Cloudflare's global network

Deno Deploy: Serverless platform for JavaScript and TypeScript apps, with Node and npm compatibility and built-in Deno KV

Pros

  • The free plan includes 100,000 requests a day, and requests to static assets are free and unlimited
  • The paid plan starts at $5/month with 10 million requests and 30 million CPU milliseconds included
  • No cold starts, and you pay for CPU time, not for time spent waiting on network calls
  • Runs code in lightweight V8 isolates, with faster cold starts than Lambda-style functions
  • Free tier includes 1 million requests and 20 GiB of egress a month, plus 5 custom domains
  • Deploys from GitHub automatically and supports Next.js, Astro, SvelteKit, Nuxt and other frameworks

Cons

  • Only a subset of Node.js APIs is supported, so some npm packages won't run
  • The free plan allows 10 ms of CPU time per request
  • Only runs JavaScript and TypeScript: no support for Python, Go, or other runtimes
  • Vendor-specific KV database creates lock-in if you build on Deno KV
  • Logs and traces are kept for one day on the free tier

Details

Workers runs your code in Cloudflare’s data centres in more than 330 cities, close to your users. It handles APIs, full-stack apps built with React, Vue or Next.js, scheduled jobs and webhooks, and it connects to Cloudflare’s databases, storage and queues through bindings.

Cloudflare’s documentation for Pages now says to start new projects on Workers, and calls Workers its primary platform for building applications.

The paid plan is $5 a month plus any usage beyond the included amounts, and requests for static files are never charged. Check that your dependencies run on the Workers runtime before you commit, since it is not a full Node.js environment.

Deno Deploy hosts JavaScript and TypeScript applications on Deno’s runtime, which Deno says has full Node and npm compatibility. Connect a GitHub repository and each push deploys automatically, with support for most popular frameworks. You can link an existing Postgres database or provision one from the dashboard, and the built-in Deno KV store gives you persistent data without a separate database.

The current platform, at console.deno.com, replaced Deno Deploy Classic, which shut down on 20 July 2026. The free tier includes 1 million requests and 20 GiB of egress a month. Pro costs $20 a month for 5 million requests, then $2 per extra million, and Builder costs $200 a month. If your stack is TypeScript-first and you want serverless hosting with little configuration, Deno Deploy fits. If you need other runtimes, Fly.io is a safer bet.
