Cal.com vs Google Workspace

Pricing

Cal.com: Free for individuals, Team from $15/user/mo

Google Workspace: From $7 per user/mo on an annual plan ($8.40 month to month); 14-day trial

Description

Cal.com: Open-source Calendly alternative: free scheduling for individuals, self-hostable

Google Workspace: Google's business suite: Gmail on your own domain, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet, with Gemini built in

Pros

  • Free for individual use with no limits, not a trial
  • Open source and self-hostable for full control over your data
  • Clean booking pages that look professional
  • Professional email at your own domain on every plan
  • Business Starter includes 30 GB of storage per user, video meetings for up to 100 people and Gemini in Gmail
  • The Flexible plan bills monthly for the users you have, and you can cancel at any time

Cons

  • Not as polished as Calendly: occasional rough edges in the UI
  • Self-hosting requires technical knowledge to set up and maintain
  • Fewer native integrations than Calendly
  • Business Starter leaves out Gemini in Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive; those start on Business Standard at $14 per user a month on an annual plan
  • Recording Meet calls needs Business Standard or higher
  • Introductory discounts apply to new customers for the first 12 months only

Details

Cal.com does what Calendly does, but it is free for individuals and open source. You get a booking page, calendar integrations, and the basics of scheduling without paying Calendly’s rates.

If you are a solo founder who just needs a scheduling link, Cal.com saves you $10-20/month compared to Calendly. The tradeoff is polish: Calendly has had years more to smooth out the experience. Cal.com is good enough for most scheduling needs, and the option to self-host appeals to founders who want control over their data. If scheduling is mission-critical to your business and first impressions matter, Calendly or SavvyCal are more refined.

Workspace gives you email at your own domain plus Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Meet under one login. Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, is built into Gmail on every plan and into the other apps from Business Standard up.

Business Starter covers the basics for one person: email, 30 GB of pooled storage per user and meetings for up to 100 people. Business Standard ($14 per user a month on an annual plan) adds 2 TB of storage, meeting recordings, appointment booking pages and eSignature in Docs and PDFs.

The prices on the pricing page assume a one-year commitment. Paying month to month on the Flexible plan costs more: $8.40 per user for Business Starter. New customers also get introductory prices for their first 12 months, on up to 20 users.
